A Letter for Change
Dear wool& community,
One of our three brand tenets is to “do good.” When we first launched our brand, we envisioned speaking out and standing up for issues that we cared about to be an integral part of our brand. But sometimes “doing good” is not enough. In these times, we need to do better. Much better. In light of the recent murders of innocent lives such as George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, and the horrific racial injustice and police violence that have occurred in our country, we are here to say that we are committed to working toward ways that we can do better as a company, and as individuals in our communities.
We have a responsibility with our platform to not stay complicit in silence. Enough is enough. We feel compelled to share some of the ways that we’re taking action with you:
1. Conversations: Facilitate more conversations around racial inequality, systemic oppression, and white privilege with our small team. Encourage each other to hold similar, challenging conversations with our family members and friends. Urge one another to speak up when it matters.
2. Donating: There are many organizations that are fighting for change. Here is a list of organizations.
3. Looking inwards: Taking the time for personal study. Right now there are so many resources available, it’s a great time to learn where our blindspots are. Listen to the many voices for change and carry the momentum. Social media is a powerful tool, but it isn’t enough—this means holding important conversations, checking our own biases and privilege, and educating ourselves about the long history of racial violence in America. We realize there is so much work to be done.
4. Raise voices: We’re committed to amplifying the voices of people of color in any way that we can. #NspireChange
